Editors float a new platform – Editors' Council

Editors of various national dailies yesterday formed a new platform called the Editors’ Council aiming to achieve full freedom of the press and protect the right to expression, reports BSS.

The organisation also aims to enhance the professional skill of newsmen and strengthen the editorial institution.

The Editors’ Council was constituted unanimously at a meeting held at the office of Daily Star with the editor of the Daily Samakal, Golam Sarwar, the editor of the Daily Star, Mahfuz Anam, and the editor of the Daily Manabjamin, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, as its president, general secretary and treasurer respectively. The meeting was chaired by the editor of the Daily Independent, Mahbubul Alam.

According to a press release issued by the general secretary of the Editors’ Council, the new organisation would be given a total shape soon with the framing of its constitution.

The other members of the Editors' Council are Mahbubul Alam (Independent), Anwar Hossain (Ittefaq), Motiur Rahman (Prothom Alo), Reaz Uddin Ahmed (News Today), AMM Bahauddin (Inquilab), AHM Moazzem Hossain (Financial Express), Nurul Kabir (New Age), Shyamal Dutta (Bhorer Kagoj), Imdadul Huq Milon (Kaler Kantha), Nayeem Nizam (Bangladesh Protidin), Khondokar Muniruzzaman (Sangbad), Alamgir Mohiuddin (Naya Diganta), Mostafa Kamal Mazumdar (New Nation), Mozammel Huq (Korotoa), MA Malek (Azadi) and Architect Taslim Uddin Chowdhury (Purbakone).
