Two schoolgirls have been saved from getting married as the upazila nirbahi officer had obstructed the arrangement in Jhenaidah yesterday.
Harianakundu police said, farmer Anjer Ali of Daakhalpur village had arranged the marriage of his 13-year-old daughter Khadija Khatun at village Betai Chandipur in Jhenaidah. It has been informed to the UNO Abul Bashar and he sent police to stop the child marriage.
On the same day the UNO has stopped another child marriage at Bhawanipur village.
Police said, a class nine student Muslima Khatun has been prepared to be married in Sudarshan upazila in Chuadnga as her day labourer father could not ensure her education.
The UNO said he could be able to stop the child marriages as the local people had extended their cooperation in that time.
