The International Crimes Tribunal-2 Wednesday ordered the police to arrest Jatiya Party leader Syed Mohammad Kaiser for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Obaidul Hassan came up with the order in response to a plea filed by the prosecution earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, the tribunal asked the prosecution to submit its progress report in this connection within one month.
Earlier on May 29, 2010, the War Crime Facts Finding Committee handed over a list of 19 top war criminals to the International War Crimes Tribunal formed to try those who were involved in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
Jatiya Party leader Syed Mohammad Kaiser, was among those on the list.
Convener of the Facts Finding Committee Dr MA Hasan handed over the list to Senior Investigating Officer Abdur Rahim. The Committee also submitted another list of district-based war criminals to the probe body.
However, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad claimed that there was no war criminal in his party.
“Ershad said so from his political view. However, Syed Kaiser was state minister for Agriculture during his tenure,” said the committee member.
