Both Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and main opposition leader Khaleda Zia on Tuesday congratulated Pakistan Muslim League leader Nawaz Sharif on his party’s victory in the May 11 general elections.
In a message, the Bangladeshi prime minister expressed hope that the Dhaka-Islamabad relations would get a new dimension under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, UNB reported.
Hasina also congratulated the people and the political parties of Pakistan for demonstrating their overwhelming confidence in democracy.
Leader of the opposition and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has congratulated Nawaz Sharif on his party’s resounding victory in his country’s national election.
In another message to Nawaz on Wednesday, the BNP chief observed that Pakistan’s polls marked a strong mandate for democracy and for continuation of democratic government and political stability.
Mentioning that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan are historic, Khaleda said, in addition to being fellow members of Saarc, OIC, the commonwealth and the United Nations the people of the two countries have common goals and shared aspirations.
Nawaz Sharif is expected to be Pakistan’s new prime minister following Saturday’s landmark elections. The leader of the Muslim League has been out of power for 14 years.
