FIs to help Savar factory collapse victims

Bangladesh Bank and financial institutions yesterday decided to contribute to the prime minister’s relief fund for the help of the families of the people killed in the Savar building collapse tragedy. The money would also be spent for the help of the injured ones.

The contribution would be made under the financial institutions’ corporate social responsibility, said a Bangladesh Bank press release.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the chairmen of the financial institutions at Bangladesh Bank conference room, with Governor Dr Atiur Rahman in the chair.

The meeting also decided to contribute modernisation of Fire Service and Civil Defense for facing any future disaster like the Rana Plaza incident that left at least 1,127 killed and 100s injured.

The central bank had earlier taken initiatives to mobilise fund from the commercial banks for the help of the families of the victims.
