Female Brac worker assaulted in Lalmonirhat

A female health-worker of Brac on Monday morning was tortured openly by some local hoodlums at Kulahat Bazar in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, and the victim filed a case against the gangsters a few days ago.

The victim was identified as Suchitra Sen Anjali, 24, daughter of Mangol Chandra Bishwas, a resident of Kulaghat Bazar village at Lalmonirhat sadar upazila.

Local people rescued her from the clutches of the thugs as police reached the spot three hours after the incident.  

Locals said Suchitra was also assaulted critically by the goons - Abdul Quader Miah alias Dukhu, 35, son of late Abdul Malek Miah and his associates Titu Islam, Bhola Miah, on April 18 as she denied their ill-proposal.

Then, she was admitted to Lalmonirhat sadar hospital where she stayed for ten days.

After that Suchitra filed a case with Lalmonirhat sadar police station on April 23.

Suchitra Sen Anjoli alleged that the criminals dared to torture her again as police could not arrest them.

Taking advantage, the accused are not only moving freely at the village, but also threatening her family, she said.

“Me and my family members are facing life threats from the accused. Now they are threatening us that if I don’t withdraw the case, they will kill me and evict my family from our ancestral house.”

Investigation Officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Nur Alam, said the police rushed to the spot but the accused fled away from the spot immediately.

Police will arrest the accused within a very short time, he said.
