Death toll rises to 594 in Rana Plaza tragedy

Death toll increased to 594 in Rana Plaza collapse with the recovery of 30 more bodies till 4pm Sunday.

According to police control room in Savar, 478 bodies had been identified and handed over to their families. The control room is coordinating the rescue work right from the very beginning of the Rana Plaza Collapse. 

Rescuers suspected that many bodies remained trapped under the collapsed building. 32 unclaimed bodies have been buried earlier at Jurain graveyard in the capital. Police control room confirmed that the fire service and Red Crescent workers led-by Army recovered 28 more decomposed bodies on Saturday from the rubble and 46 more on Friday.

Earlier in the morning, a murder case was filed against three people which includes Sohel Rana-owner of Rana Plaza, managing director New Wave Style Ltd Bazlul Samad Adnan and chief engineer of Savar municipality.

The case was filed in Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court by Sefali Akter, wife of a victim in the collapse-Jahangir Alam. Senior Judicial Magistrate Wasim Sheikh ordered Detective Branch police to investigate into the case.

The second phase of the rescue operation is underway with heavy equipment-the sixth consecutive day to recover last body from the debris of the collapsed nine-storied building.

The nine story building-Rana Plaza collapsed in Savar bus stand area of Dhaka Earlier on April 24, which had five garment factories, a branch of bank and a market.
