The overall flood situation in Jamalpur further deteriorated as the water level in the Jamuna River continued to swell, flooding fresh areas yesterday.
The Water Development Board sources said in the last 24 hours till yesterday noon water level in the Jamuna rose 12cm and was flowing 45cm above the danger mark at Bahadurabad ghat gauge station point.
With the recent rise in water level, about 37,000 people in 79 villages in 24 unions under six upazilas of the district have been affected, reports BSS.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension office sources, a large number of standing crops including Aush paddy, T-Aman seedbed and vegetables have been submerged by the floodwater.
