Deposition ends in Zia Charitable Trust case

A Dhaka tribunal has concluded recording the depositions of prosecution witnesses in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge Court 3 fixed April 7 for self-defence of the accused.

The court asked all of the accused in the case to be present in the court on the day fixed for self-defence.

A total of 32 witnesses testified in the case.

The court also fixed April 7 for the deposition in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

In 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on the charge of abusing power to collect Tk6.19 crore for Zia Charitable Trust.

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and four others in 2009 on charges of embezzlement of over Tk2.1 crore by forming the trust.

The ACC’s public prosecutors Mosharraf Hossain Kajol and Mir Abdus Salam appeared before the court, while AJ Mohammad Ali and Abdur Razzak Khan, and Aminul Islam were present on behalf of the defence.
