At least five persons were injured in a clash between the security personnel of a shipyard and workers in Bara Kumira area under Sitakunda police station in the district yesterday following a road accident.
According to local sources, Mamun, 28, a worker of Kabir Steel Re-rolling Mill was killed in an accident in the area in the morning while a lorry of the mill ran over him.
Later, the workers of the mill gathered at the mill gate area and blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway protesting the killing.
Sub-Inspector Md Jahir of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost said five persons got bullet injury while the security personnel opened fire to the workers during the blockade.
The injured were admitted to the hospital.
“The situation is now under control. Additional police forces were deployed in the area,” said Tariqul Islam, senior assistant superintendent of police.
Six persons were arrested in this connection.
