River ports across the country have been asked to hoist signal no 2 amid forecast of temporary west or north-westerly squalls.
West or north-westerly squalls may blow through several places in Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogra, Rajshahi, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Comilla with the speed of 60-80 km per hours and above, and the river ports there should hoist signal 2’, said a warning from the Meteorological Department, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has also issued a ‘nor’wester warning for places in Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Noakhali, Comilla and Sylhet.
11 killed in lightening strikes
In Jamalpur, a housewife died as a thunderbolt struck her at Bakshiganj upazila yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Rezia Khatun, 42, wife of Moulavi Miah of Uzan Panatiya Para village under Battazor union of Bakshiganj upazila of the district.
Police said Rezia Khatun was working in the kitchen when a thunder bolt struck her. She died on the spot at about 10:30am.
In Panchagarh, a labourer who worked in stone quarry was killed in a lightening strike and his wife injured severely.
Family members said a thunderbolt had struck Ramjan Ali, 35, while he was going to his work place in the morning. He died on the spot.
In Netrakona, three madrasa students were killed as a thunder bolt struck them. The deceased are Masum, 13, Rafat, 15, and Azibul.
In Kishoreganj, a man was killed and three students were injured in lightening strike. The deceased Md Faruk Mia was a resident of Karimgaj upziala.
In Hobiganj, two people were killed in Chandpur area under Sadar upazila.
Meanwhile, a freedom fighter was killed by thunder bolt at Balipara area under Trishal upazila.
The victim was identified as Ataur Rahman,65, Commander of Muktijuddah Balipara Union unit of Trishal upazila, police said.
Quoting family sources Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Thana said, Ataur Rahman was struck by thunderbolt when he was working in his field at about 7am.
He died on the spot. Receiving information police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. In Comilla, two people were killed. The deeased are Md Babul,22, and Md Rasel 20.
