Govt given 48hrs to arrest Tonu killers

Bangladesh Chhatra Union has set a 48-hour deadline for the arrest of the rapists and killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu.

GM Jilani, general secretary of the left-leaning student body, gave the ultimatum at a press conference at Modhur Canteen in Dhaka University on Monday.

They threatened to march towards the Prime Minister’s Office on March 31 if the government fails to act by then.

The student body will organise a cultural rally on Tuesday afternoon at Raju Bhaskarjya on the DU campus.

On March 20, Sohagi Jahan Tonu was raped and murdered by miscreants in Alipur area of the Mainamati Cantonment.

Tonu was a second-year student of History at Comilla Victoria College and also a cultural activist.

Following the incident, students, socio-cultural organisations and different political parties have carried out an ongoing protest demanding the punishment of her rapists and killers.

They expressed concern over women’s insecurity, as sexual assaults and murders of girls and women keep happening throughout the country.
