A Dhaka court has sent singer Quazi Krishnakali Islam's husband Khalequr Rahman to jail over the death of their housemaid.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar passed the order after Khalequr was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon on completion of two days' remand.
The housemaid, Jannat Akter Shilpi, 17, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at Krishnakali’s home at Mollapara, Taltala around 4:30pm on March 23.
Police detained Khalequr on the same day after he had taken the girl to the hospital. Later, he was shown arrested under section 54 and sent to the court on the following day.
Police said they found Khalequr's behaviour suspicious and a scratch mark on his face made the suspicions stronger.
However, Khalequr claimed that Shilpi committed suicide as his wife Krishnakali told her that she would send her back to her village as she did not work properly.
OC of the police station Gopal Gonesh Bishwas earlier told the Dhaka Tribune that although the first information report and the physical appearance of the body did not indicate murder, police would wait until the autopsy before drawing any conclusion.
The OC on Sunday said that some newspapers were publishing false information regarding the death of the housemaid. “I do not know how the newspapers are getting such information,” he added.
Dhaka Medical College's Forensic Department sources said that it might take a week to prepare the post-mortem report.
