Extreme heat and cyclone likely in April

The country is likely to see extreme weather events in April, with the met office projecting a temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius and at least one cyclone during the month.

At least one extreme heat wave is likely to blow over the northern, northeastern and central regions of the country in April, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department in its long-range forecast.

In addition, other parts of the country may see a couple of  mild or moderate heat waves.

According to the met office, temperature between 36-38 degrees Celsius is considered as mild heat wave, 38-40 degrees Celsius as moderate heat wave and above 40 degrees Celsius is considered as extreme heat wave.

The long-range forecast, issued on March 6, also projected that one or two depressions might form in the Bay in April, and at least one depression may turn into a cyclone. There may be also more than average rainfall in April.
