Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters Deputy Director (Dhaka) Mozammel Hoque confirmed this to the Dhaka Tribune and said the fire could have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a shop on the third floor of the shopping mall around 9:40am.

Some 16 firefighting units doused the fire around 11:50am, the official said, adding that three mobile accessories shops were gutted in the blaze.

The fire service deputy director said the firefighting arrangements at the mall were unsatisfactory.
