The inquiry committee looking into the digital heist of Bangladesh Bank’s forex reserve account held its first meeting yesterday at the central bank headquarters.
The three-member committee, headed by former governor Mohammed Farashuddin, met with new Governor Fazle Kabir, a CID team and others involved in the investigation.
Subhankar Saha, executive director of Bangladesh Bank, said the government probe team officially started its work yesterday.
Farashuddin, meanwhile, sought support from all authorities concerned for completing the investigation within a 30-day deadline.
“We have already started our investigation and we will need support from authorities concerned,” he told journalists after reaching the central bank offices in the afternoon.
Deputy inspector general of CID, Saiful Alam, who is coordinating the probe, also met with Fazle Kabir yesterday.
“A team led by Saiful Alam met with the governor and held a meeting over the progress of investigation” said CID’s additional deputy inspector general, Shah Alam.
He said discussions were held on what kind of support the police would need from the central bank for its investigation.
“We are trying to identify the link of perpetrators by tracking the money,” Shah Alam said.
