Janata Bank suspends officer

Janata Bank yesterday suspended one of its executive officers for an alleged embezzlement of around Tk2 crore.

The name of the suspended officer is Rajibul Hasan and worked at the deposit and cash department of Dilkusha local office, according to a press release issued by the state-owned bank.

However, the bank said it was able to recover an amount of Tk1.589 crore from him.

Informed by the local office, Janata Bank’s vigilance department investigated into the matter and found the irregularities. The bank filed a case on the matter with Motijheel thana.

The bank said a check in advance and original documents of a flat located in the capital’s Rayer Bazar were seized in an effort to recover the rest of the money.

Chief Executive Officer Abdus Salam said the depositors’ money was safe from the alleged misappropriation. He said the money was taken from the clients’ profit against fixed deposits.
