With the year round philosophy of Starwood Hotels and Resorts that with “small steps we take can make a big difference together” Le Méridien Dhaka on March 19, 2016 participated in a global environmental awareness event called "Earth Hour" – to send a powerful global message about the importance of environmental sustainability and caring for the planet. Earth Hour is a global effort to emphasise the threat of global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions which negatively impact the natural health of the Earth. Le Méridien Dhaka turned off their lights and took other energy-saving measures for one full hour, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Turning off an illustrative Light box in the Lobby and with a humble celebration the general manager of Le Méridien Dhaka Ashwani Nayar clocked in the 60 minutes of celebrating Earth hour. Le Méridien Dhaka has also taken several other measures, including turning off air-conditioning; exterior facade lighting; dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting; using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and lobby to celebrate the event. The guests were also informed about the hotel’s participation in “Earth Hour” so that they could be aware and could take part of the global movement.
