Election Commissioner Mohammad Abu Hafiz has said Union Parishad elections are being held peacefully without any irregularities.
He was speaking to journalists at the EC Secretariat in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday afternoon.
He said: “Voters’ presence at the polling centres is good and I hope it will cross 60% by the end of the day.”
Some election officials have reportedly been shot and wounded during the UP polls. Voting at 16 polling centres in the country have been postponed due to clashes.

Four election commissioners are monitoring the local level elections.
Hafiz is overseeing polls in Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, Md Shahnewaz in Barisal division, Brig Gen (retd) Javed Ali in Sylhet and Chittagong divisions, and Abdul Mobarak in Rangpur and Khulna divisions.
