Miscreants have shot the polling officer of a polling centre in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district.
The injured is Shahadat Hossain, the polling officer of Chorking Girls' High School.
The shooting took place when Shahadat was headed to the polling centre around 7:30am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, assistant polling officer Abdul Awal received minor injuries in the incident.
Hatiya Election Officer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Topon Krishno Dey has been appointed the polling officer at the centre in the place of Shahadat.
“Shahadat has been admitted to the upazila health complex.”
Voting in the first phase election at 717 Union Parishads began around 8am, and will continue till 4pm without any break.
