A Dhaka court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of three people, including Daily Janakantha Editor Mohammad Atikullah Khan Masud, for publishing a report defaming Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on February 4.
Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarti issued the warrant in response to a petition filed by complainant advocate Arfan Uddin Khan.
The two other accused are Daily Janakantha Advisory Editor Towab Khan and Executive Editor Swadesh Roy.
On February 22, advocate Arfan Uddin Khan, former president of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar, filed a defamation case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.
After recording the statement of the complainant, Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarti issued a summons against the three accused.
In the case, the complainant said the February 4 report on the chief justice contained false and defamatory information.
