Now coal-laden vessel sinks in Shela River

A coal-laden cargo vessel has sunk in Shela River of the Sundarbans.

The incident took place around 5pm Saturday.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Sundarbans East Zone Saidul Islam said: “Khulna-bound coal-laden lighter vessel ‘MV Sea Horse-1’ capsized at Kulamula area after colliding with some sunken parts of another vessel.”

He said: “The amount of coal being carried in the vessel could not be ascertained yet. No casualty was reported in the incident so far.”

Earlier in 2014, a tanker carrying 357,000 litres of oil capsized in Shela River, spilling oil along 20 kilometres of the area in the river.
