Talented Indian actor, Irrfan Khan landed in Dhaka yesterday to play a role in Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s upcoming bilingual international film Doob (“No Bed of Roses” in English).
Upon arriving at Shahjalal International Airport, where director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki was present to greet him, the actor answered a bunch of queries from journalists.
The Lunchbox actor has reached the country a few days ahead of filming. Dismissing the comments that he is a “little early,” the actor said that he was really interested to know more about Bangladeshi culture and he considers this trip to be a part of the film’s pre-production activities.
Responding to the news of him rejecting a Steven Spielberg project, the Padma Shri award recipient revealed that he did not reject it, rather he was just not lucky enough to make time for the film. However, in an interview with NDTV recently, Irrfan said that the reason behind such a decision was that he was just not excited about the role even though the film will star Scarlett Johansson, whom he would have loved to share screen-time with.
Khan confessed that he has watched some Farooki’s works including The Ant Story, Third Person Singular Number and Television, and the actor admits he is really impressed by his work.
“Farooki has convinced me to work in his film and even intrigued me enough to co-produce the film,” Khan continued. Later, he stated that it was his “personal yearning” that moved him to co-produce the film.
The cast of Doob also includes Nusrat Imroz Tisha, star of Farooki’s Third Person Singular Number that was Bangladesh’s entry to the 2011 Oscars and of Television that was Bangladesh’s entry to the 2014 Oscars.
The director describes the film as a “family story of loss and regain.” The film will be produced by Kolkata’s Eskay Movies and Bangladesh’s Jazz Multimedia. Irrfan is on board as a co-producer of the film while Jaaz will distribute in Bangladesh.
