The government allocated around Tk41 crore for the audit of different mobile phone operators this fiscal year.
A top BTRC official said: “Appointing audit firms for Grameenphone and Robi would cost around TK17 crore while a total over of TK24 crore would be left for auditing the rest operators.
On October 6, the BTRC had signed a deal with a chartered accountants company for conducting a second time audit of the market’s leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone.
Earlier in 2011, the regulator had appointed an audit firm for the Grameenphone for conducting the audit, which found the operator owed Tk3,034 crore to the government.
Later, the Grameenphone took the matter to the High Court and challenged the auditor appointing process, which still remains pending.
