Atiur Rahman resigns as BB governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman has resigned from his post in the wake of the recent hacking of Bangladesh Bank's reserve fund.

He submitted the resignation letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at PMO on Tuesday morning, PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim told the Dhaka Tribune.

Abul Kashem made acting BB governor

Abul Kashem has been appointed as the acting governor of Bangladesh Bank, said a source at the Banking Division of the central bank.

Prior to the appointment, Kashem has been serving Bangladesh Bank as deputy governor, according to the source.

Muhith’s media briefing cancelled

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has cancelled the press conference scheduled to be held at 2:30pm Tuesday over the hacking of Bangladesh Bank's reserve fund.

Muhith’s Personal Secretary MM Zakiria Haque told the Dhaka Tribune about the cancellation of the media breifing on Tuesday morning.

HC rejects Tarek Sayed's petition

The High Court has rejected the petition filed by Lt Col (retd) Tarek Sayed Mohammad seeking the court's directive to cancel one of the two cases filed against him in the sensational seven-murder in Narayanganj.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Amir Hossain passed the order on Tuesday morning.

Hearing on contempt rule against two ministers March 20

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has fixed March 20 for the hearing on the contempt rule issued against Food Minister Qamrul Islam and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque following their remarks on Chief Justice SK Sinha.

The nine-member full bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha fixed the date on Tuesday morning.

3 Ansar men killed in Habiganj road accident

Three members of Ansar have been killed and 30 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and truck in Shaistaganj of Habiganj district.

The deceased are Ziaul, 30, Sudeep, 24, and Babu Mia, 28.

Jhut trader shot dead in Chittagong

A jhut trader has been shot to death by assailants in Kamal Gate area of Chittagong.

The deceased is Abul Rashed, 45. He was an activist of local Awami League.

Putin orders surprise Syria withdrawal

In a surprise move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his military to start withdrawing the "main part" of its forces in Syria from Tuesday.

He said the Russian intervention had largely achieved its objectives.

The comments come amid fresh peace talks in Geneva aimed at resolving the five-year Syrian conflict.
