A Bangladeshi woman in the New York City has been missing since December last year.
Mahfuza Rahman, 30, was a registered nurse at Bellevue Hospital.
Her husband Mohammad Chowdhury told Mahfuza's colleagues that she left for Bangladesh to look after her parents who were injured in car accident, reports NY Daily News.
According to a NYPD official, Chowdhury told their neighbours the same thing and later told them that he was also going to Bangladesh.
But when Mahfuza did not return to work last week, Bellevue authorities concerned notified hospital police and the NYPD.
The NYPD was investigating into the matter.
“Right now, it’s a missing person investigation. We don’t have any evidence of foul play. She could have just left,” the official said.
Citing a police source, Daily News reported that there is concern that Mahfuza was the victim of a crime.
The source said investigators find it odd that Mahfuza never called her employer.
Mahfuza studied chemistry at University of Dhaka, then obtained her associate’s degree at LaGuardia Community College in Queens before attending Hunter College to study nursing.
