A Dhaka court has sentenced a person to 10 years in jail for killing his wife, who was a teacher at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.
The convict, Atif Amin Haque, was also fined Tk10,000. In case of failing to pay the fine, he will have to serve six more months in jail.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict on Thursday afternoon.
Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology teacher Tasneem Hossain Trisha was beaten to death by her husband at their Uttara residence on August 6, 2013.
Victim's father Jahidul Islam filed a case against husband Atif on the following day. Atif was arrested on the same day.
Investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheet on November 20, 2013. The convict was indicted on February 26, 2014.
