Two Jamaat-Shibir supporters were injured when police opened fire on a procession at Moghbazar in the capital.
The Jamaat-Shibir men brought out the procession around 11am yesterday, in protest of the apex court verdict that upheld Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem’s death penalty for war crimes.
Ramna police station OC Mushfiqur Rahman said: “The Jamaat-Shibir men hurled bricks and tried to vandalise some vehicles as law enforcers barred their procession.
Then police fired four rounds of shotgun bullets in self-defence.
“At that moment, someone received a bullet wound and was rushed to the hospital. Afterwards, police detained two gunshot injury victims – Sumon, 23, and Al-Amin, 22 – from Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Islami Bank Central Hospital, respectively. They were being treated at the hospitals then.”
