DB takes over Banasree children murder case

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has been handed the investigation into the murder of two siblings in the capital's Banasree area.

The case was transferred to the DB on Sunday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Maruf Hossain Sardar confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the case had been transferred to the DB soon after getting directions from DMP headquarters regarding the matter.

On March 3, Mahfuza Malek Jesmin, the mother of the two siblings who had died in suspicious circumstances confessed to killing her children.

Fourteen-year-old Nusrat Jahan and six-year-old Alvi Aman were declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after they were brought there unconscious on February 29. Forensic experts’ suspicion that the siblings might have been murdered were reinforced after investigators said the information provided by the parents and relatives did not add up.

The family initially claimed the children had died from food poisoning on Monday, hours after “consuming contaminated food” at home. But the postmortem examinations at Dhaka Medical College hinted at foul play.
