MP's son Rony indicted in double murder

A Dhaka court has framed charges against Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony in a case filed over killing two people on Dhaka street.

Judge Shamsun Nahar of Second Additional Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court framed the charges rejecting Rony's discharge petition.

The court fixed April 11 for the deposition in the case.

On April 13, 2015, Rony, who was in a drunken stupor, opened fire from his car indiscriminately near Dilu Road leaving two people — rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and daily Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub — injured.

Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakub died on April 23.

Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case with Ramna police on April 15.

Rony’s driver Imran Fakir made a confessional statement on June 1. Rony was arrested based on his information and later taken into police custody for interrogation.

Later, he was placed on remand several times.
