Five people including a Dhaka University student have been killed as a bus hit a human hauler on Dhaka-Barisal Highway at Kolabari area of Madaripur Sadar upazila.
Two of the deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, a student of Criminology department of Dhaka University, and Latif Shikdar of Samaddar area of Madaripur Sadar upazila.
Shariful, son of Ismail Hossain Babul, hailed from Bahherchar Srinadi area of the same upazila.
Identities of the rest of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Madaripur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director told the Dhaka Tribune that the accident took place at 3pm on Saturday as a Barisal-bound passengers’ bus of Eagle Paribahan collided a Madaripur-bound human hauler in the area, leaving three people dead on the spot and three injured.
Later, two of the injured died on the way to hospital, he said.
Angry locals blockaded Dhaka-Barisal Highway for two hours protesting the road crash, creating a huge tailback on the road.
Later, police rushed to the spot and made the highway clear for traffic. Police seized the bus.
