Witnesses said the agitated cricket fans started vandalising a number of vehicles and hurling brick chips at buildings in the area around 12 noon following a rumour that all tickets of the match have already been sold out.

Police had to lobbed tear gas canisters and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, said police.

Police said cricket fans since morning started queuing before the bank to manage tickets for the tomorrow's match and they went rampage by a rumour of no ticket available and counterfeit ticket selling.

Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain, who also sustained minor injuries during the scuffle, told the Dhaka Tribune that: “The cricket fans have started hurling brick bats at the bank and vandalising vehicles in the street. At one stage, police charged batons on them to quell the unruly situation.”

Police have detained some people from the spot, he said. However, he could not confirm the exact figure of the detainees.

It was seen in the different TV channels that the fans have been raising allegation of irregularities in ticket-sales.
