5 BRTA staff hurt as robbers attack Gazipur resort

At least five officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) have been injured as robbers assaulted them during robbery in Bhovanipur Eco Resort under Gazipur Sadar upazila.

The robbery took place early Friday.

Injured Uttara BRTA officer Ashrafuzzaman, 55, his driver Nurul Islam, Gazipur BRTA Inspector Wazed Hossain, 52 and resort staff Ismail Hossain were admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. The identity of another could not be confirmed yet.

Ashrafuzzaman was later referred to IBN Sina Hospital in the capital when his condition deteriorated.

Confirming the incident Hotapara police outpost In-charge Najmul Hoque said a gang of about 30 robbers stormed into Bhovanipur Eco Resort around 2:30am and they looted all belongings of the five following beating up them mercilessly. Police visited the spot, he also said.

A guest of the resort named Wakib Hossain said they were staying there for picnics today.
