Narsingdi double murder: 2 accused killed in 'gunfight'

Two accused in Narsingdi double murder case have been killed and another has been injured in a “gunfight” with police at Nagorikandi in the district town.

The deceased are Zahirul Islam, 25, and Rakib, 24.

Narsingdi sadar model police station OC Md Golam Mostafa said: “Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raid at Nagorikandi around 3:30am Thursday.”

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire at police.

In retaliation, police fired back that left the trio bullet wounded.

Later, Zahirul died when he was taken to Narsingdi District Hospital while Rakib died on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Narsingdi District Hospital duty doctor Ershad Mahmud said: “Zahirul was already dead when he was brought to the hospital around 4:40am.”

The OC said: “A pistol, two rounds of bullets and two machetes were recovered from the spot.” 

After being failed to realise money, some extortionists shot dead two youths at Bhagdi Moholla, Narsingdi municipality Wednesday evening.

Police recovered the body of Arif Khandakar, 32, and Khokon Khandakar, 33, from the spot at night and sent those to morgue for autopsy, said Monjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar police station.

Quoting locals police said a group of extortionists had been demanding money from Rafique Islam, brother-in-law of Khokon, a resident of the area for long.

Rafique Islam called on Khokon as the group went to his house to realise the extortion quipped with arms around 6:30pm.

Being informed Khokon with his cousin Arif rushed to the spot and locked into an altercation with the hoodlums.

At one stage, the criminals opened fire at Khokon and Arif, leaving them critically injured.

They were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared them dead. A case was filed in this connection.
