Mother, daughter killed in Chittagong road mishap

A minor girl and her mother among three pedestrians have been killed and another was injured when a picnic bus ran them over on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Lohagara upazila in Chittagong district.

The deceased were identified as Sumita Rani, 28, wife of Asim Kumar Dey and their daughter Sema Rani, 6, and Arefa Beghum, 50 wife of late Ishaq Mia, said Inspector (investigation) Kefayat Ullah of Lohagara police station.

Asim Kumar Dey is the lineman of Rural Electrification Board of Lohagara area while his daughter was the student of a local kindergarten school, said the inspector.

Kefayet told the Dhaka Tribune: “The incident took place near the Loharaga police station at Vanga Rastar Matha area of Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at around 12:45pm on Wednesday.”

“A picnic bus of one MNA Fashion Limited located in Chittagong ran over the three pedestrians while the vehicle’s driver was trying to cross a motorbike, leaving the three dead on the spot”, added the Inspector.

On information, Lohagara police and highway police rushed to the spot and sent the dead bodies to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, said the police official.

He also said the motorbike rider Safiqur Rahman was also injured in the incident and sent to CMCH.

Police seized the killer bus. However, its driver managed to flee after the incident.
