500 acres of PWD land occupied

More than 500 acres of land of Housing and Public Works Department (PWD) have been illegally occupied by various vested quarters.

Replying to a query, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday told the parliament that 503.29 acres of land under Housing and Public Works Department were illegally occupied.

He said the ministry could not recover the grabbed land as cases are pending with courts but the legal process is going on to recover the land.

The minister also said the illegally grabbed land will be recovered gradually and will be brought under government’s control.

Replying to another query, the minister said currently there are 6,406 abandoned houses in the Dhaka megacity.

He also said as per circular of public works ministry, the abandoned houses are allocated in favour of the martyr families and wounded freedom fighters and there is no provision to allot those houses to anyone else.
