Chittagong Kotwali police yesterday sent a letter to the Home Ministry seeking its approval to register a sedition case against The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam.
The case was filed by SM Al Mamun, chairman of Sitakunda upazila and also president of Chittagong district (north) unit Jubo League, on February 17 at the Metropolitan Magistrate's court.
The court asked Kotwali police OC Jasim Uddin, to register an FIR upon approval of the authorities concerned.
Dozens of cases have been filed across the country after Mahfuz on a TV talk show on February 3 admitted that he had run graft stories against Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina on information fed by the DGFI.
