Restaurant owners ordered to follow residential area rules

 The federation of hotel, guest house and restaurant owners association organised a meeting on the evening of January 23 with Rashed Khan Menon MP, Honourable Minister for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism organised a programme to discuss the ongoing eviction drive of RAJUK against the illegal hotel and restaurant in the residential areas of Dhaka.

 

In response, Rashed Khan Menon MP said, “The current government is willing to do anything to help industries flourish. However, it does not support anything that is contradictory to existing laws. The government has undertaken the initiative to come up with a plan better for hotels, guest houses and restaurants in residential areas. New policies are being drawn up which will be followed in the future. We would never do anything to harm any industry, hence we are taking this issue seriously and intend to discuss this with the Honourable Prime Minister.”

The meeting was chaired by Md Shah Alam, chairman of the federation of hotel, guest house and restaurant owners association. He said, “There are no restrictions for such organisations to operate in residential areas, according to urban planning.” As he urged the government to step up and take necessary steps to protect the industry which is crucial for the economy as well.
