Five members of a family have sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out when a gas pipeline exploded at a residence in the capital’s Uttara area.
The victims are Shahnewaz, 45, his wife Sumaiya, 40, their sons Sharleen, 15 and Jarif, 9, and their 14-month-old daughter Jaya.
Mozammel Haque, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the blast occurred around 6:30am Friday.
Later, the injured were taken to the hospital around 8:45am.
DMCH Burn Unit Director Partha Sankar Pal told the Dhaka Tribune: “Of the injured, three received 95% burn in the incident while the other two sustained 20% burn."
The condition of four are stated to be critical. One of the injured was released from the hospital after primary treatment around 3pm.
