A person was killed and three others received burn injuries in a fire that broke out in shop adjacent to the vegetable market in the capital’s New Market area.
The fire fighters rescued the four from the shop and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Amjad, 25, dead, said Inspector Mojammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp.
Deceased Amzad Ali, 30, is a scrap trader. The three others were his employees.
Atiqul Alam Chowdhury, inspector of the Fire Service Control Room, said the fire might have originated from a burning mosquito coil in the shop around 1:42am when the four people were asleep.
On information, two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 2:30am, he added.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital sources said Amjad died of suffocation due to the fire.
Parth Shankar Paul, residential Surgeon of New Market police station told the Dhaka Tribune that Injured Shohag, 15, suffered 32% burn injuries, Yeasin, 25, suffered 12% burn, and Mehedi, 20, suffered 32% burn.
