Agrani Bank MD gets show-cause

Bangladesh Bank has served show-cause notice to Agrani Bank Managing Director Syed Abdul Hamid for his alleged involvement in loan irregularities.

The central bank issued the notice last week, citing 10 serious irregularities.

According to the notice, Hamid was asked to explain by March 3 why action will not be taken against him.

The allegations include providing loan without the knowledge of the board of directors of the bank, loan classifying and loan rescheduling, branch transfer, violating rules, issuance of interest-free advance loan, etc.

Moreover, the central bank ordered the Deputy Managing Director of the bank, Mizanur Rahman Khan, to stand aloof from any official work due to his alleged involvement with Moon Group loan irregularities.

But ignoring the central bank’s order, Hamid gave Mizanur charges for different departments.

The letter reads Hamid was involved in activities that go against the depositors’ interest. He also violated the board’s instruction and the central bank rule.
