Chief Justice SK Sinha has ordered officials concerned to investigate why the matter of hearing on BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's explanation regarding his remarks on the judiciary was not included in Tuesday's cause list.
Lawyers for the BNP acting secretary general were set to submit his signed explanation before the five-member bench of the Appellate Division led by the chief justice Tuesday.
The same court on Monday did not accept the statement as the affidavit not been signed by Fakhrul himself. The court gave the defence time until yesterday following a plea. But the case was shown on the cause list.
The chief justice asked the Supreme Court registrar general to look into the matter, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said.
At a meeting of the BNP’s Sylhet unit on February 7, Fakhrul said that the government was trying to control the judiciary. He also claimed that there was no democracy in the country, nor an independent judiciary.
