RAB DG: Special security for Language Martyrs' Day

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has put special security measures in place around Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University campus for peaceful observance of Language Martyrs' Day tomorrow.

“We have installed a three-tier security system in the area to tackle any situation, should they arise,” said RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed at a press conference at the Shaheed Minar premises yesterday morning.

RAB will be working in coordination with police tomorrow to ensure optimum security in the area, the RAB chief added.

He further said RAB members in plainclothes have already been deployed in the area since Thursday to oversee security and resolve any issues.

All measures have been taken following the information provided by the intelligence agencies, he said, adding that smooth coordination with other intelligence agencies would strengthen the security system.

As part of the special security system, RAB teams will conduct raids at the hotels, guest houses, slums and other potentially risky areas near the Shaheed Minar to prevent any untoward situation from arising on the day.

In response to a question, Benazir said the Shaheed Minar area would be monitored RAB 2, RAB 3 and RAB 4.

RAB personnel will patrol the area both on foot and in cars, and the force's dog squad and bomb disposal unit will be on stand by in the area.

In addition, an emergency response team will also be present in the area round the clock to handle any situation; emergency helicopters will be in place for the same reason.

RAB has also set up its own CCTV cameras in and around the Shaheed Minar area to monitor the overall activities.

RAB chief said the elite force will also provide security at all other monuments, including the temporary ones, commemorating the language martyrs tomorrow.
