Fire at N’ganj power plant

Generating electricity has come to a halt as a blaze erupted in a diesel power plant in Siddirganj area of the city.

However, no casualty was reported in the fire that took place at a 100MW capacity power station yesterday morning. Sources said a transformer of Desh Energy Ltd caught fire around 8:30am and it soon spread.

Being informed, three fire fighting units from Narayanganj, Demra and Ramna rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.

Around 14-ton of diesel and the transformer were badly damaged in the fire. Finally the plant authorities compelled to halt the production there. Despite repeated attempts the Desh Energy Ltd authorities denied to disclose anything before journalists.

Siddirganj police station OC Sorafat Ullah quoted the authorities by saying that none was injured in the fire and fire fighters brought it under control within 2 hours.
