The Supreme Court has imposed a stay on a bail order issued by the High Court for AHM Kibria, a convict in the Bishwajit Das murder case.
A five-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order on Thursday morning.
The High Court had granted bail to Kibria in the case on February 3.
Later, the prosecution filed a plea with the chamber judge.
On December 18, 2013, Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 sentenced eight accused to death in the murder case.
The court had also awarded life sentence to 13 others including Kibria for their role in the murder.
Bishwajit Das, proprietor of Amantron Tailors at Shakhari Bazar in the capital, was hacked to death allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Jagannath University unit during the opposition’s countrywide road blockade programme on December 9, 2012.
