Bangladesh Bank will set a uniform ceiling of everyday ATM transaction for all banks.
“We will sit with banks soon to make a guideline over ATM transaction limit,” said Subhankar Saha, executive director of Bangladesh Bank.
At this moment, there is no clear instruction on per day withdrawal ceiling from ATM Booths, he said while addressing a press conference after a meeting with the head of ATM Card Division of all scheduled banks held yesterday at its headquarters.
Referring to the recent ATM Card forgery, he said during that time some banks slashed the withdrawal limit from ATM Booths to avoid forgery risk, but this was not the solution. Some banks reduced their ATM transactions to Tk20,000 from Tk50,000 on last Friday and Saturday learning about the card forgery in Eastern Bank.
Subhankar said the total ATM transaction dropped to 40% during February 13 to 16, but it came at normal level from last Tuesday after the central bank stepped in to solve the issue. He said some 1,200 cards were spotted to have lost their information and were duly deactivated.
“We did not find involvement of bank officials in the fraudulent means.”
The BB official said money was withdrawn from 36 client’s account through card forgery and the victim clients will get back their money.
