Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has once again ruled out the claims of the presence of militant outfit Islamic State (IS) in Bangladesh.
“Probes into some recent incidents revealed that the motives of those who were involved in recent terrorist activities in the name of the religion, were primarily domestic. But, there is no organisational existence of IS in Bangladesh,” she told the parliament on Wednesday.
Noting that that Awami League government has zero tolerance against militancy and religious fundamentalism, the PM further said: “We are firmly determined to eliminate all sorts of extremism and terrorism from the country.”
“The members of our law enforcement agencies are cracking down on criminal groups alleged to be involved in bomb attacks and other subversive activities,” the PM added. “Moreover, those who have secured bails in cases filed in connection with subversive activities, are under the scanner of the law enforcers.”
She also pointed out a number of initiatives taken by her government to ensure the safety of people's lives and properties.
