A Dhaka court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Ratan Kumar Hawlader, a sub-inspector of Adabor police station, in a case filed for sexually harassing a female student of a private university.
Dhaka Fourth Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal's Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmed passed the order after taking the probe report of the case into cognisance.
The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Adabor police station to submit report on the execution of the arrest by March 16.
The victim was present in court during the hearing yesterday.
On February 10, Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque submitted the judicial probe report to the chief metropolitan magistrate after conducting a judicial probe over the allegation.
During the probe, Magistrate Emdadul Haque recorded depositions of five witnesses. They are the victim, her husband, mother, human haulier driver Md Sukkur Ali and shop owner Khokan.
The investigation report said examining the statements of the witnesses it is proved that the court found the allegation of the sexual harassment true.
The report also said SI Ratan and two other police personnel of Adabor police station stopped the victim's rickshaw around 3pm on January 31 while she was on her way to a bookstore on Nurjahan Road.
The policemen confined the ASA University student to an electronics shop in front of the Japan Garden City at Shekhertek in Mohammadpur and harassed her for about 45 minutes accusing her of being a yaba peddler.
The SI had asked the shop owner to pull down the shop's shutter and leave and then he opened her jacket and handbag and sexually harassed her in the name of searching yaba tablets.
Later, the victim filed a case against the policemen with the Dhaka Fourth Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
