The 12th South Asian Games 2016 has been concluded in Shillong and Guwahati of India yesterday with Bangladesh winning only two bronze medals from boxing in the last day.
Shamina Akter finished third in the women’s 51kg weight category while Basona Khandokar earned Bangladesh the last medal in the women’s 75kg weight category yesterday.
Bangladesh finished fifth in the 12-day long meet where a total of 2,672 athletes took part in 226 events over 22 disciplines. They won a total 75 medals including only four gold, 15 silver and 56 bronze. Bangladesh’s four gold medals came from swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila (2 gold), weightlifter Mabia Akter Simanta and shooter Shakil.
India continued their domination at the top of the table with 188 gold, 90 silver and 30 bronze summing 308 medals while Sri Lanka placed second with 25 gold medals, 63 silver and 98 bronze. Only Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives are behind Bangladesh in the table.
