Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday underscored the need for regional cooperation to combat transnational crimes.
“Regional help is needed to fight transnational crimes. The regional police should have comprehensive knowledge about the offenses as well,” said Kamal at the inaugural programme of a two-week-long International workshop titled “Transnational Crime: Saarc Perspectives” in Bangladesh Police Staff College in the capital’s Mirpur.
Some 18 senior police officials from the five SAARC countries joined the event. Of them, two were from Sri Lanka, two from Bhutan, two from Afganistan, two from Maldives and ten were from Bangladesh.
He recalled polices’ role during the liberation war and said they proved themselves to be very much professional. He hoped that if the assistance continues the Saarc would be able to create example to the world.
IGP AKM Shahidul Haque said the course had been introduced so that transnational crimes could be curbed.
